Clothing as art with
|
Lou’s workshop will draw on research from The Hoodie, an exhibition Lou curated last year which looked at the debates around this controversial garment, and the way in which artists have used the hoodie within their work, as a conduit to discuss the broader issues that surround it; racism, surveillance, youth culture, inequality, amongst many others. This workshop will look more generally at the relationship between fashion and art, and the way our garments become loaded vessels that can communicate a myriad of ideas. As much as fashion designers are often inspired by artists when crafting their collections, so too do artists draw on clothing when making work, particularly as a result of its connection to self expression.
