Recovery college Arts courses project

Recovery College courses across Sussex - 2016
In 2016 Make Your Mark, funded by a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Explore and Test grant, collaborated with Sussex Recovery College to develop, deliver and evaluate seven arts based recovery college courses.

Each course was co-designed and co-delivered through a collaboration between a professional artist and a peer trainer with lived experience of mental health challenges.  Each course was delivered at a cultural venue in Sussex with the aim to build stronger links between the arts and health sectors to support greater access to the arts for people with mental health challenges.

The following courses were devised and delivered:

  • Stories of a Journey – Recovery on Film - Hawth, Crawley
  • Mindful drama and storytelling for supportive recovery - Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham-by-Sea
  • Recovery & Self-Discovery through Arts & Food - Towner, Eastbourne
  • Creative Singing for Wellbeing - Worthing Museum
  • Playing with Print - Brighton Museum
  • Creative Music Making - De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea
  • Art and Movement for wellbeing - Clair Hall, Haywards Heath

Course participants were invited to participate in an evaluation project to explore the impact the courses had on them at 3, 6 and 9 months after they took part. An article outlining the findings was published in 2018, you can take a look here.
